SJPhone Ringer and Notification

At Edgewall, we use sjphone as our voip softphone of choice, and it works quite well. It does, however, lack a decent ringer and call notification to alert you of an incoming phone call.

sjphone-ringer is a simple awk hack for sj phone, a wrapper that allows for notification upon incoming calls. By default it uses KDE's knotify mechanism for visual display and aplay to play a ringer sound, but can easily be adapted to your liking.

Of possible interest and value to UNIX neophytes - it uses the script utility to unbuffer the stdout output from sjphone, quite a useful trick.

A Python Sidebar

To allow easy and quick access to the current Python documentation when programming, I wrote a simple sidebar for the Mozilla family of browsers.

It displays the table of contents for the commonly used parts of the Python documentation, providing an accessible index at all times.
